Our philosophy
"The best editing is never seen. It is only felt — in the sentence
that moves you without knowing why, the chapter you couldn't put down, the book you still think about."
A good manuscript and a great book are not the same thing. Between the two sits an editor — and the difference that editor makes is the difference between a story that disappears and one that endures.
Who we are
We do not merely correct.
We collaborate.
For nearly two decades — working across more than 400 manuscripts — we have watched the gap between traditionally published and self-published books shrink in almost every way. Almost. Readers still hesitate. Bookstores still hold back. And the reason, almost always, comes down to the invisible work that great editing does: the shaping, the refining, the steady hand that turns a raw manuscript into a book that commands respect.
At the BluePencils, that is what we do. We read deeply, ask hard questions, and stay with a manuscript until it has become the fullest, most authentic version of what the author always intended it to be.

Why Authors Work with Us
A Direct Editorial Conversation
At the BluePencils, authors communicate directly with an editor. This matters more than many first-time writers realise. In much of today’s self-publishing ecosystem, manuscripts are often assessed by project coordinators or marketing representatives whose primary role is to recommend publishing packages. While such systems help manage large volumes of authors, they do not always ensure that a manuscript receives the level of editorial evaluation it genuinely requires.
In some cases, editorial intervention may even be reduced to keep a package affordable or commercially attractive. A manuscript might be quickly skimmed—sometimes only the opening pages—and judged ‘well written’ or ‘ready’ for a lighter service such as basic editing or proofreading. For a debut author, this can create the impression that the work requires only surface correction, when in reality, deeper structural or stylistic refinement may still be necessary.

Meet our founder
Every manuscript is more than a draft. It is a story waiting to emerge — and every story, told well, deserves to be read and remembered.
I started the BluePencils with one conviction: that self-published authors deserve the same quality of editorial attention as those with the backing of major houses. Not correction — collaboration. Not a red pen, but a reader who cares as deeply about your book as you do. That is what we offer here, and it is the only standard we hold ourselves to.
